Mental Health Resources during the COVID-19 response

AJE is happy to share this information from the Department of Behavioral Health (DBH) about how DC families can access mental health care and support during the COVID-19 response.  Information about DBH’s operational status and additional resources from DBH are below, and families can also find that information here

We also want to make sure that DC families are aware of these additional nationally-available resources

SAMHSA’s Disaster Distress Helpline provides 24/7, 365-day-a-year crisis counseling and support to people experiencing emotional distress related to natural or human-caused disasters.  You can find out about their services here or by calling  1-800-985-5990.

The Department of Behavioral Health remains open. We will continue to provide services as usual.  You can always reach us on our 24/7 Access Helpline at 1-888-793-4357.

How does the COVID-19 response impact what DBH does?

• 24-hour Access Helpline – no change. Access to a mental health clinician and 24-hour suicide prevention lifeline at 1-888-793-4357 will remain available. Residents looking to talk to a trained professional about the stress and anxiety they’re feeling around Coronavirus are also encouraged to call this line.

• Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program – no change. The 24/7 adult emergencypsychiatric care facility will remain open.

• 35 K Street NE Adult Clinic – no change. Same day Urgent care services including assessment, counseling, and psychiatric evaluation will remain open from 8:30am-3:00 pm.

• 35 K Street NE Pharmacy – no change. The pharmacy is open for uninsured residents, MondayFriday from 8:00 am-5:00 pm. Prescriptions received before 4:00pm will be filled the same day.

• Child/youth Emergency Mobile Psychiatric Service – no change. Mobile emergency service for children/youth ages 6-17 in the home or community will remain available. This service is provided at no cost to District residents and children in DC’s foster care system. Child/Youth Emergency Mobile Psychiatric Services are available 24/7. Children ages 18 to 21 who are in the care and
custody of DC Child and Family Services Agency can also utilize Emergency Mobile Psychiatric Services.

• Court Urgent Care Clinic – no change. Behavioral health services for court referred individuals and walk/ins will remain available on the ground floor of the Moultrie Courthouse.

• Community Response Team – no change. Continue to respond to adults in psychiatric crisis in the home or community for counseling and transportation to emergency treatment, if needed.

• Saint Elizabeths Hospital – no change. The District’s inpatient psychiatric hospital will remain open.

• 821 Howard Road SE Children’s Clinic – no change. Same day/walk-in psychiatric assessment for children/youth 18 years old or younger will remain open Monday – Friday 9:00 am – 5:00 pm.
