AJE Youth Advisory Board (YAB) still accepting applications

Youth Advisory Board

We are thrilled to announce the launch of the AJE Youth Advisory Board!

Too often, young people with disabilities are left out of important conversations, even though their experiences and ideas matter. With the AJE Youth Advisory Board (YAB), youth with disabilities now have a dedicated space to share their perspectives, tell their stories, build leadership skills, learn about effective advocacy strategies and drive real change in education and the community.

After participating in the YAB, we hope that youth feel prepared for leadership in other spaces, not just at AJE, but in all the places where decisions are made..  You can apply now if you are interested!

What the AJE Youth Advisory Board Offers

AJE Youth Advisory Board members will be given a space to discuss issues that are often overlooked. There will be opportunities for members to participate in training that will help enhance their advocacy skills and learn how to serve on the other board in the community (the State Board of Education, the Out of School Time Advisory Board and other youth advisory boards), give testimony, and develop leadership skills they can use in their life and to benefit the community.

Who can Become Members of the AJE Youth Advisory Board?

Young people ages 14–22, who are DC residents, are enrolled in school and have an IEP or qualify under Section 504 are eligible to become members of the YAB. For more information, please see this flyer, or contact youth@aje-dc.org. You can also apply today!

Whether you dream of speaking out, want to develop leadership skills, or simply seek connections with others who understand your journey, the AJE Youth Advisory Board is a great place for you to shine!
