AJE is excited to share a fantastic new resource that marks a historic step towards equitable justice in DC. After its official launch in October, DC Resource Bridge now provides one number that DC residents can call for legal help!
The DC Resource Bridge is a coordinated intake system connecting DC residents with civil legal aid services. As of now, 19 legal services organizations are participating and signed up to accept referrals. Currently, the DC Resource Bridge will help residents with issues related to family law, public benefits, consumer debt and foreclosure, and cases in the DC Court of Appeals. Additional issue areas will be added in the coming months, with expansion to all areas of civil legal aid by March 2027.
In its first two weeks, the DC Resource Bridge completed an impressive 40 intakes, with almost all callers connected to help within 1-2 days. This is a massive step up from before, where residents would make multiple calls to various organizations, leaving message after message, often without ever receiving help. This new efficiency is a result of remarkable coordination from the DC Bar Foundation and the various other legal services organizations, including AJE, that have contributed to this resource.
In addition to the DC Resource Bridge and to further help make the path to legal aid simple, the public can now also access an updated directory of legal services organizations. The Service Provider Directory lives on the DC Resource Bridge website and is accessible to anyone, including individuals seeking civil legal services in the District. Information in the Directory is populated directly from the information provided by legal services organizations on the DC Resource Bridge platform, and information will be updated regularly so that the Directory always has the most accurate information. You can find AJE’s listing in the Service Provider Directory.
AJE appreciates the work that the DC Bar Foundation did to make the Bridge possible, and thanks the community members, partners, and advocates who helped.
