DC gearing up to modify high school graduation requirements. State Board wants your thoughts.

The State Board of Education has begun its process to review proposed updates to high school graduation requirements submitted by the Office of the State Superintendent of Education, available here. As part of that review process, and to facilitate engagement with the broader public, the State Board launched its High School Graduation Requirements Task Force back in October. The task force has two remaining sessions scheduled to hear thoughts about the proposal from members of the public:
- December 11, 2025 | 7:00 – 8:30 pm | VIRTUAL
- December 16, 2025 | 5:30 – 7:00 pm | Benning/Dorothy I. Height Library, Meeting Room 1

About the D.C. State Board of Education
The D.C. State Board of Education is an independent agency within the Government of the District of Columbia. The State Board is made up of nine elected representatives, one representing each of the district’s wards, and one representing DC at large. There are also four appointed student representatives. The State Board advises the Office of the State Superintendent on education matters, sets academic standards and graduation requirements, and oversees the Office of Ombudsman and the Office of the Student Advocate.
