As in previous years, AJE is happy to share this update from REV UP, a project of the AAPD, with our families who might be interested.
The 2026 election season has officially begun! Voters throughout the country will be making important choices, from U.S. congressional seats, governors, and state legislatures, to city councils and school boards.
There are over 40 million eligible voters with disabilities. As individuals and as a community, we have the power to shape our future.
Join us as we REV UP in 2026.
R – Register to vote or check your registration. We recommend checking your voter registration every year. Don’t forget to update your registration if you have moved! If you
E – Educate. Check the voting laws in your state to make sure you have what you need to make a plan to vote and cast your ballot. Learn what candidates and issues you will vote on this year.
UP – Use your Power. Every vote matters in shaping your community and the country.
This year, there have been multiple attempts at the federal level to make voting harder and to cast doubt on the fairness of elections. These actions can be confusing and intimidating, but here is what we know:
Voters pick our leaders. Our democracy is strongest when every eligible voter can participate.
We must protect our voting rights. Tell your Senator to vote “NO” on the SAVE America Act. This law would not make our elections safer. It would make it harder for disabled people, rural, low-income, and voters of color to participate (learn more about the SAVE America Act).
Our elections are safe and fair. There are many processes in place to make sure only eligible voters can cast a ballot, and investigations by secretaries of state, universities, nonprofit organizations, and journalists have repeatedly proved this.
The President has no constitutional authority to change election laws. If another Executive Order (EO) is published on elections, that EO will not erase existing laws, force government agencies to take illegal action, or go against current regulations and statutes. Additionally, lawsuits can challenge executive orders, and the civil rights community will take legal action to protect our democracy.
You may be hearing a lot about challenges to our elections, but your vote matters. You have power.
