AJE Community Health Advisory Panel (CHAP) Advocacy Briefs – March 2026

On Friday, March 20, AJE’s Community Health Advisory Panel (CHAP) convened to review key changes impacting three critical school-based health systems in Washington, DC: School-Based Health Centers (SBHCs), the School-Based Behavioral Health Program (SBBH), and the School Health Services Program (SHSP). The resulting March 2026 CHAP Advocacy Briefs highlight these system shifts, along with identified strengths, challenges, and policy recommendations to improve coordination, transparency, and access to care.

These briefs are designed to inform the community about CHAP’s recommendations to advance more effective, equitable, and sustainable health supports for DC’s Children and Youth with Disabilities and Special Health Care Needs (CYSHCN). By addressing gaps in service delivery, workforce capacity, and continuity of care, CHAP aims to ensure that students and families can access the services they need—when and where they need them—across school and community settings.
