AJE wants to share this information from our partners at Mary’s Center.

Open Enrollment Starts on Nov 1, 2025

The Open Enrollment period for the Affordable Care Act (ACA) begins on November 1, 2025. If you know someone who is a Green Card holder or a U.S. citizen without insurance, they may qualify for Medicaid or ACA coverage. Remember, Medicaid enrollment is open year-round!

If you know someone who has DC Healthcare Alliance and their plan expires at the end of this month, it’s time to renew — Mary’s Center is here to help!

Respiratory Illnesses Season is Here. Get Vaccinated!

It’s that time of year again—respiratory illnesses like the flu, pneumonia, and COVID-19 are around. These illnesses can be especially tough on the young, the elderly, and those with underlying health conditions. Getting vaccinated helps prevent illnesses and reduces the severity of symptoms if you do catch a respiratory infection. Mary’s Center offers vaccines for flu, pneumonia, and COVID-19. Stay healthy, stay safe, and set up your appointment to get your seasonal vaccinations.

Free Uber Rides for Participants!

Thanks to support from the Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) Health Access Fund, in partnership with Uber, Mary’s Center is helping patients overcome transportation barriers with free Uber rides to essential services. Participants can get rides to medical appointments, Briya classes, hospital visits, food pantries, legal appointments, and other destinations connected to the social drivers of health.

In September alone, 437 participants took 1,043 rides, highlighting the impact of this LISC-funded initiative. Mary’s Center participant and cancer survivor Ernestina Constantino shared, “Ana Alvarez, Cancer Navigation Coordinator at Mary’s Center, helped me with the Uber rides when I had to go to the hospital for chemotherapies and all other appointments. This service was free, and it was very helpful for me.”
