The National Association of Councils on Developmental Disabilities (NACDD) with support from Anthem, is excited to host its third Self-Advocacy Discussion Series, and all are welcome!

The Self-Advocacy Discussion Series will be led by Eric Stoker, Information Specialist for the Utah DD Council, NACDD Board Member, Chair of the NACDD Self-Advocacy Committee (SAC), NACDD Champions of Equality Award winner and member of the  Self-Advocacy Leadership Circle.

DATE AND TIME: November 19, 2020 at 4:00 p.m. Eastern.

The Topic is Youth Self-Advocacy: Programs, Resources and Information to Support Self-Advocacy and the Advocacy Movement

Discussion questions to think about for the NACDD SA Discussion Series on Youth Self-Advocacy.
1) What does advocacy or self-advocacy mean to you?

2) Briefly tell us about your self-advocacy journey? (What age did you start? Did you participate in any Developmental Disabilities Council activities, such as Youth Leadership Forum/Academy, Jr Partners in Policymaking or other trainings or events)

3) Was there ever a time that you had to advocate for something that you believed in, even though others did not? (How did that feel?)

4) What is your greatest advocacy achievement?

5) Why is it sometimes hard to get youth involved in advocacy? How can we involve more youth in advocacy/self-advocacy and keep them involved?

A short poll to capture data about people’s advocacy journeys will also be shared.
