It is painful to watch a child struggle to read, spell, and write at grade level, and it is equally frustrating when the best efforts of teachers and administrators are less than satisfactory.  There is a real art and science to teaching foundational literacy skills (emphasis on science), and not all parents have the knowledge, resources, or confidence to teach their own child.
