We are excited to invite families, youth advocates, providers, educators, and community partners to register for the 2026 Health Policy Camp, taking place July 13–25, 2026. This two-week hybrid experience will bring together caregivers, youth with disabilities, healthcare and education professionals, and community advocates to strengthen leadership, deepen policy knowledge, and advance disability justice across Washington, DC.
This year’s camp activities focus on helping families navigate DC’s systems of care while building practical advocacy skills around healthcare access, secondary transition planning, language access, mutual aid, and systems change. Participants will engage in virtual workshops, panels, peer learning spaces, and in-person community events designed to center lived experience and multi-generational leadership.
Camp Highlights Include:
- In-Person Community Wealth Builders Presentation and Workshop on July 22
- 2-Gen Creative Advocacy Showcase on July 24
- In-Person Parent Café on July 25
- CHAP Meeting Focused on Secondary Transition and Youth Leadership
- Integration of advocates working in the DC local Village to Village Network (VtVN) members about creating opportunities for seniors to participate and share intergenerational perspectives
- Active involvement from AJE’s Youth Advisory Board (YAB) throughout the camp experience
Families and providers supporting children and youth with disabilities and special health care needs (CYSHCN) are especially encouraged to participate. The camp is designed to strengthen community connection, advocacy capacity, and collaborative problem-solving around healthcare, education, transition planning, and social safety net access.
AJE’s Health Policy Camp is grounded in a multi-generation approach that recognizes the importance of supporting both youth and caregivers of different generations as leaders, decision-makers, and advocates within their communities.
