Department of Education releases report on racial and ethnic disparities in identification, placement and discipline of students with disabilities

The U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services (OSERS) has released a report entitled “Racial and Ethnic Disparities in Special Education: A Multi-Year Disproportionality Analysis by State, Analysis Category and Race/Ethnicity.” The report provides data to the public on school districts with significant racial and ethnic disproportionality with respect to the identification, placement and discipline of students with disabilities. The Department has also issued a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking to address these disparities.
