AJE is happy to share this information and call for applicants from the DC Developmental Disabilities Council (DDC) with our families.
If you are:
- A person with a developmental disability (DD);
- A DC resident; and
- An advocate with a desire to make positive change in our DC community
Then, we want YOU!
The DC Developmental Disabilities Council (DDC) seeks to strengthen the voice of people with developmental disabilities and their families in DC in support of greater independence, inclusion, empowerment, and the pursuit of life as they choose. We strive to create change that eliminates discrimination and removes barriers to full inclusion through our advocacy.
The DDC enables Councilmembers to sit at decision making tables, advise local government officials, and have opportunities to network, learn, and build inclusive communities in DC. Councilmembers improve lives in DC by creating programs, promoting social change, and being a strong voice for disability rights. This is the perfect chance to become a leader and grow in the field of advocacy!
The DDC has four public meetings, with committees meeting in between public meetings to make decisions and evaluate progress toward achieving our goals. On average, the time commitment to serve on the DDC is between 2 and 5 hours per month. The DDC offers stipends, according to our Stipend Policy, to Councilmembers who are not otherwise compensated for their work or forfeit wages to conduct business of the DDC.
