Update for all DC Student Athletes

As of December 1, student-athletes who have not received a full course of vaccination or do not have an approved religious or medical exemption are not permitted to participate in extracurricular athletics until they come into compliance.

LEAs and schools are responsible for reviewing and processing religious exemptions. OSSE has provided a template for religious exemptions (here) and OSSE has strongly encouraged LEAs to use it in order to promote consistency across schools and the District, however schools can use other forms.

As of December 1, student athletes will need to have exemption requests processed and approved BEFORE beginning to play, or they are to be excluded from playing until either their exemption request is approved or they show proof of a full course of vaccination.

Student-athletes who have an approved medical or religious exemption will be required to wear a mask in athletic events regardless of changes in masking guidance.

As of December. 1, student-athletes with an approved exemption must be tested weekly for COVID-19 and provide a negative COVID-19 test result on a weekly basis in order to participate in their school-based athletic activity.

DC families may continue to refer to coronavirus.dc.gov for the latest DC Health guidance and OSSE COVID-19 Guidance and Resources for more information on COVID-19 response and recovery.
