**HAPPENING IN 10 MINUTES ** School Boundary Conversation with DME (repeats tomorrow at 6pm)

AJE wants families to know what is going on in DC government and what decisions are being made.  We also want our families to have their voices heard in those conversations, we want to make sure that the decisions that are being made reflect the voices and needs of the families we work with.  That is why we are sharing information about this upcoming meeting about the Boundary and Student Assignment Study.

This is the study conducted by the Deputy Mayor for Education that will guide the decisions about future school boundaries.

We know that students with disabilities have longer travel times to school, change schools more often, have less access to school choice than their nondisabled peers and have lower academic achievement and graduation rates.  We also know that this is especially true for Black and Brown families, for families who speak languages other than English and for families in Wards 7 and 8.  AJE encourages families to attend one or both of these Town Halls and share their experiences so the study reflects their needs, experiences and goals.

You can learn more by reading the information below from the DME, visiting the DME’s webpage on the DC Public Education Master Facilities Plan 2023 study here, and reviewing the materials available at Virtual Town Hall Series on DC School Planning.

The Deputy Mayor for Education (DME) is running a Boundary and Student Assignment Study concurrently and both studies will share foundational information.
