Have Your Voice Heard about DCPS School Boundaries!

AJE wants families to know what is going on in DC government and what decisions are being made. We also want our families to have their voices heard in those conversations, we want to make sure that the decisions that are being made reflect the voices and needs of the families we work with. That is why we are sharing information about these upcoming Town Halls on the Boundary & Student Assignment Study. This is the study conducted by the Deputy Mayor for Education that will guide the decisions about future school boundaries.  The Office of the Deputy Mayor for Education is hosting three Town Halls this month on the Boundary & Student Assignment Study on December 12, 13 & 14, 2023.

We know that students with disabilities have longer travel times to school, change schools more often, have less access to school choice than their nondisabled peers and have lower academic achievement and graduation rates. We also know that this is especially true for Black and Brown families, for families who speak languages other than English and for families in Wards 7 and 8.

AJE encourages families to attend one or more of these Town Halls and share their experiences so the study reflects their needs, experiences and goals.

You can learn more by reading the information below from the DME, visiting the DME’s webpage on the DC Public Education Master Facilities Plan 2023 study here, and reviewing the materials available at the Virtual Town Hall Series on DC School Planning.
